FAVCO MANGO SEASON KICKS OFF!!
From the second week in September 2011, FAVCO will kick off the Mango season with supply of Kensington Pride variety Mangoes from the Northern Territory.
The Kensington Pride Mango variety is a medium sized Mango with soft flesh and sweet flavour. When ripe, the fruit is soft to touch and has a yellow skin colour and a strong mango aroma. Kensington Pride is the most popular variety grown in Australia. It is grown throughout Australia's subtropical and tropical regions.
Along with other popular varieties, FAVCO will also range R2E2 Mangoes midway through the Mango season. Released for commercial production in 1991, R2E2 has gained wide acceptance throughout all mango-growing regions in Australia and is the third most popular variety grown. The R2E2, a mid-season variety with large, highly coloured fruit has a long shelf life and is sought after on the export market.
MANGO FACTS:
The Mango (Mangifera indica), sometimes called the 'king of fruits' or "the fruit of love", by volume is the second largest tropical fruit crop in the world after bananas and fourth in total fruit after bananas, citrus and apples. It is native to north-eastern India and Burma. It is sometimes also referred to as the 'fruit of the gods' due to it exotic flavour and texture.
Mangoes are one of the most versatile fruits on the market; delicious as a healthy snack on their own, a perfect addition to your favourite chicken and prawn dishes, light summer salads, cocktails, smoothies and sweet desserts.
A fresh Mango is always highly desired in the warm summer months.
